Session 1 – Adult Am Brass Band
Friday June 25 – Thursday July 1
REGISTRATION INFO COMING SOON!
Adult Am Brass Band?! Yes, ma’am!!
Open to trumpet, trombone, horn, and tuba/euph players of all experience and ability levels, this retreat was created with all of our brass-playing friends in mind— specifically those of you that may be adult amateur players, though you don’t necessarily need to identify that way! If you want to play mixed brass ensemble music in a fun and relaxed setting, this retreat is for you.
In addition to our other retreat activities, we will have daily rehearsals culminating in a collaborative, creative performance open to the public on Wednesday, June 30th at 7:30pm.
Session 2 – Hella Horns Featuring James Hampson
Friday July 2 – Thursday July 8
REGISTRATION INFO COMING SOON!
There’s gonna be Hella Horns and horn players here! Come be one of them!
Alphorns, tuba horns, natural horns, oh my! Come spend a week in a beautiful natural setting playing as much (or as little?) horn as you want. In addition to our other retreat activities, you’ll be able to take lessons with members of the LGBTuben Quintet, gain experience on auxiliary instruments, play fun rep in large and small horn ensembles, and generally nerd out. We will have daily rehearsals culminating in a relaxed, creative performance open to the public on Wednesday July 7th at 7:30pm.
Guest artist James Hampson of Hampson horns will be on site for the duration of the retreat sharing all things alp horn, historical instruments, creative improvisation, and more. He will also be available for individual equipment and embouchure consultations. We are so lucky to have him back for the second year running!
This retreat will open with a performance by the Lawrence Graduate Bayreuth Tuben Quintet around 8:00pm on Friday, also open to the public.
Session 3 – Composer Collab Featuring Eve Beglarian
Friday July 9 – Thursday July 15
REGISTRATION INFO COMING SOON!
Come get inspired by the natural beauty of the Adirondacks! This retreat was created with our composer instrumentalist friends in mind and is open to any musicians (instrumental or vocal) who are interested in writing and performing new music collaboratively.
This is a relaxed space to rest, try out new ideas, and build connections with other creative performers. The retreat will culminate in a performance of newly composed or improvised music for the public on Wednesday, July 14 at 7:30pm.
Composer and performer Eve Beglarian will be on site for one day to present on her creative process, meet with participants individually about their own works, and give feedback on what we are working on for our performance. This is an incredible opportunity and we can’t wait to have her join us!
*For our keyboard/percussion friends, we do not currently have any instruments we can provide for you, you must be able to bring or source your own. Please reach out, we are happy to try to help you source something locally for the week.
Registration Fees
PAYMENT INFO COMING SOON!
Sliding scale registration fee: $450-900
$450 covers your meals, basic operating costs for the retreat, and a LGBTuben Quintet merch bundle.
Our sliding scale pricing allows you to contribute more if you are able. If you are, your additional support will go directly toward facility improvements, future programming, and program accessibility. A higher monetary contribution does not mean a different Parallel Play experience. If you can give more, thank you. If you can’t, we’re just so happy to have you here.
For any registration fee of $550 or more, we will send you an additional merch bundle as a thank you gift. If you are able to register for the full $900, we will give you naming rights to a tree of your choice on the property! For posterity! Oh and did we mention? Anything above the $450 base registration is a tax deductible donation!
If cost is a barrier to your attendance at the retreat, please don’t let it keep you from joining us – reach out to us at lgbtubenquintet@gmail.com about financial assistance.

How to Get Here
Arriving and Departing: Camp opens at 3:00pm on the first day of your retreat, Friday. We’ll have our opening meeting at 5:00pm followed by dinner. Plan to arrive between 3:00pm and 4:30pm to get checked in. Camp closes on Thursday at 11:00am after breakfast and packing. We will all be so full of good vibes that no one will want to leave, but we have just over 24 hours to turn over camp for the next retreat so… you gotta skedaddle <3.
Train to Westport: You can take the northbound train Adirondack 69 from NYC on Friday which arrives in Westport daily around 2:30pm. On Thursday, we will take you back to the station after camp closes at 11:00am. The southbound train to NYC (Adirondack 68) departs daily around 3:30pm. Westport is a charming town on the shore of Lake Champlain with shops, parks, and restaurants for you to explore while you wait for the train.
Flying: If you plan on flying, we can pick you up from a nearby airport such as ALB or BTV, we will just request an extra fee of $50 on the registration form to cover fuel. If you don’t find good flights to ALB or BTV, also consider flying into NYC and taking the train to Westport.
Driving: If you would like to drive yourself, you are welcome to! We have room for you to park. Be aware that service is spotty in the surrounding area, so download your map and drive safe!
If you have any questions or want to double check anything before booking, don’t hesitate to email us at lgbtubenquintet@gmail.com and we can assist you.
Please note that you do NOT need to have your travel plans finalized in order to register, we just ask for you to send us your travel details via email once you have them.
